When it comes to maintaining consistent, high-quality turf, no area within the US is as challenging as the transition zone - a 200-mile-wide belt that stretches from east to west across the country and separates the temperate and subtropical zones. Itis within the transition zone that both cool- and warm-season turf reach their limits. In states like Kansas, Missouri, Illinois and Indiana, it isn't uncommon for temperatures to skyrocket to 37°C during summer and plummet to -23°C during winter (Figure 1).
