BIRCH USE IN THE FORMER SOVIET REPUBLICS

This article is an abridged version of one Andriy Boyar prepared as an intern with Alaska Boreal Forest Council. He is a graduate student in the UAF Department of Economics and received his PhD in Economic and Social Geography from Kiev National University, Ukraine. The article is based on personal observations and information gathered from an Internet survey of Russian and English language websites. At SNRAS, research on the properties of birch bark and sap is being conducted by Edmond C. Packee and Glenn Juday.
