In this paper, the position control system based on a dual magnetostrictive rods-based electro-hydrostatic actuator (DMEHA) was presented. The bidirectional output displacement of the DMEHA is achieved by a combination of an active rotary rectification valve and two magnetostrictive piston pumps. Simulations and experiments were performed to validate the feasibility of the DMEHA's position control. The results indicate that the DMEHA's output flow rate varies under different peak to peak input current and the DMEHA achieves bidirectional output displacement by adjusting appropriate phase angle of input current without directional valves. The designed DMEHA's peak out flow rate can reach 3.136 l min(-1) at the driving frequency of 200 Hz. While tracking a sinusoidal displacement command signal with amplitude 3 mm and frequency 5 Hz, the maximum tracking error displacement is 0.96 mm and the root mean squared error is 0.561 mm at 200 Hz driving frequency and 6 A peak to peak input current.
