China’s crude steel and pig iron production increased markedly on month in April, outpacing downstream sector growth, and potentially putting pressure on the steel market in June. China’s crude steel production rose 0.2% year on year to 85.03 million mt in April, while pig iron output was 1.2% lower year on year at 72.02 million mt, according to the National Bureau of Statistics on May 15.
