Saskatchewan's Viking oil play echoes Bakken and Lower Shaunavon

The technology that paid off in the Bakken and Lower Shaunavon is now showing signs of success in the Viking formation, says Ed Dancsok, assistant deputy minister for the petroleum and natural gas division of Saskatchewan's Ministry of Energy and Resources. Initial results indicate that horizontal drilling and multi-stage fracturing can dramatically increase oil production from the Viking, although it's still early days in the play.
