World economy posts highest growth in 6 years

The world economy is estimated to have posted a growth of 3 per cent in 2017, which is the strongest performance since 2011, according to the UN World Economic Situation and Prospects 2018 report. Global growth is expected to remain steady at 3 per cent in 2018 and 2019 as well, the report says. The growth is widespread, with roughly two-thirds of countries worldwide experiencing stronger growth in 2017 than in the previous year. The East and South Asia accounted for nearly half of the global growth in 2017, with China alone contributing about one-third.
