摘要

Virginia Woolf knew well how illness was susceptible to romantic narratives-what Susan Sontag would later term "the punitive and sentimental fantasies" that shape and reshape accounts of illness. As a result of these fantasies, which Woolf at once relished and resisted, she tended to write privately about her protracted experiences with illness.
