Rockies LNG Partners, a group of nine Canadian natural gas drillers, is considering a plan to build an export project on three barges off the coast of British Columbia as a way of getting their gas to new markets.

Rockies LNG CEO Greg Kist said the plan, which is in its infancy, would be to develop a platform to export up to 12 million tons of LNG per year – mainly to Asian markets. He said the project would need very limited land space such as jetties, a control room and living quarters. This follows a major plan by LNG Canada, a $30 billion project being led by Royal Dutch Shell that would also be off the coast of BC.
