Gulf Coast LNG Project Sponsor Begins Prefiling Process With FERC

Pointe LNG has asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to begin its prefiling review for the company's proposed export project on the east bank of the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. The $3.2 billion project would feature three modular liquefaction trains with a combined capacity of 6 million tons per year (0.8 billion cubic feet of gas per day). Co-founders James Lindsay and Tom Burgess said a portion of the site was reviewed by FERC in 2014 in connection with a previously proposed LNG export project, called Live Oak LNG, then planned by Parallax Energy. The site itself is located on 600 acres with 6,500 feet of river frontage and an existing water depth of 65 feet, which can accommodate heavy draft vessels. Pending regulatory approval, construction could begin in early 2021 with operations to begin by 2025.
