To evaluate the construction quality of asphalt pavement effectively, the anti-rutting performance index was recommended in view of the shortcomings of China's current construction quality acceptance system. Firstly, the rutting mold based on cylindrical core sample was developed. The inspection method for rutting resistance of asphalt pavement based on core sample and Chinese rutting instrument was put forward. Secondly, the rutting tests based on cylindrical specimen under different test conditions were carried out, and the reasonable test condition was recommended. Thirdly, the conversion formula of dynamic stability between cylindrical specimen and plate specimen was established according to the correlation between the test results of two kinds of specimens. The conversion formula was also modified by drilling the core sample on the field. And the evaluation standard of rutting resistance based on pavement core sample was established. Finally, relying on Tong-xun expressway, the inspection method for rutting resistance of asphalt pavement was exampled. The results show that the inspection method for rutting resistance of asphalt pavement based on core sample is feasible. The reasonable temperatures of rutting test based on cylindrical specimen for base asphalt mixture and modified asphalt mixture are 60 degrees C and 70 degrees C respectively. The thickness of cylindrical specimens can be determined according to the thickness of pavement structural layers flexibly. The core sample of 4 cm is recommended for upper layer, and 5 cm or 6 cm is recommended for the core sample of middle and lower layer. When the thickness of core sample drilled from modified asphalt pavement is 4 cm, 5 cm and 6 cm, the dynamic stability at 70 degrees C should not be less than 2800 time/mm, 2400 time/mm and 2250 time/mm respectively. The dynamic stability of base asphalt pavement at 60 degrees C should not be less than 3450 time/mm and 3200 time/mm respectively when the thickness of core sample is 5 cm and 6 cm.
