Sugarcane crushing in the Centre/South (CS) in the first half of December 2019 slowed to just 2.448 mln tonnes from 12.913 mln in the same period last year, preliminary Unica data show. This resulted in 33,000 tonnes of sugar and 235 mln litres of ethanol produced. Total crushing since the start of the season on April 1 has now reached 577.371 mln tonnes, up from 559.966 mln by the same time last year. Sugar production is up fractionally at 26.443 mln tonnes from 26.267 mln, while ethanol output rose to 31.954 bln litres from 29.927 bln.
