A metric project for statistics classes

This semester, fall of 2019, I taught two classes in basic statistics at Madison College, a community college, in Madison, Wisconsin. Whenever I assign projects for my students, I make sure the projects use metric measurements only. One of the projects I assigned was the pace-height challenge. The aim of this project was to determine a relationship between the pace and height of students. Since the original Roman mile was 1000 paces, or 2000 steps, of a Roman soldier, if one had a regression line to relate the pace of a person to their height, and we knew how long a Roman mile was, we could then determine the height of a Roman soldier.
