Carbon Pricing Comments at FERC: Stay in Your Lane, Consider Consumers, Don’t Prejudge

There is support, concern, and comments of caution for FERC on its proposed policy statement on carbon pricing in organized wholesale power markets among the numerous groups that filed comments on the plan. A compilation of the comments could be boiled down to warning FERC about exceeding its authority, seeking to ensure the Commission considers any effects on consumers and that it does not endorse or judge any proposal prematurely. The warnings and notes of caution came from many parties - not just those representing consumers or fossil fuel groups - while endorsements and support for the proposed policy statement came from renewable energy groups, the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), many individual companies, think tanks and academia.
