OIL AND GAS COMPANIES in the UK North Sea fear as many as 30,000 jobs will be lost in the region as they brace themselves for an”even more severe”crisis than the oil price crash of 2014.North Sea operators are planning deeper spending cuts than they anticipated just a few weeks ago, pushing investment to among its lowest levels for almost half a century, according to a report from the UK Oil and Gas Industry Association(OGUK),a trade body for the basin.OGUK,which has roughly 400 members, expects the 30,000 job losses to come both from oil and gas producers as well as in the supply chain.Last year 151,600 people were employed directly and indirectly in the UK offshore oil and gas industry, already a substantial reduction on the 247,400 jobs it supported in 2014.
