Angela Villa was riding in the Table Top Wilderness, south of Phoenix, Arizona, when she encountered a man crouched in the bushes with his rifle aimed squarely at her riding partner. She couldn't see him clearly in the evening light, but the distinctred dot —from a weapon's laser sight—on her friend's shirt made it clear that he had seen them.Villa gathered her reins and asked her mare to take a step forward. Then, assured that she had her horse's full attention, she called out to the gunman, saying she and her friend wanted no trouble. For a few seconds, the red dot bounced back and forth between Villa and her friend. Then the dot vanished, and Villa and her friend were able to turn around and flee.
