The debut in 2000 of the CBS television series "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" marked a turning point in science awareness and science education in this country. Thanks to the original TV show and its spinoffs, there's been a definite uptick in the number of young people who say that when they grow up, they want to be crime scene investigators or "forensic scientists." In response to the popularity of the TV series, many high schools began offering forensics-related science curricula, and some colleges added CSI and forensics to the specialities that criminal justice students were advised to learn.
