Recent times have seen momentous changes in the lighting category. LED is sweeping all established technologies before it and new waves of innovation are regularly announced. UK manufacturer Integral LED has styled itself as a progressive force in the market with the intention of 're-inventing lighting for an LED age'. We asked where inspiration will lead them next in the journey to disrupt the lighting scene LED's onslaught on conventional lighting has targeted areas of clear advantage over legacy lamps. The financial benefits in terms of lower running costs have been the prime mover behind the success of the semiconductor-based light-source. However, design teams within the big brands in the market have been quick to win customer acceptance by pressing new benefits. Form factor was one feature which has seen considerable change. From an original generation of LED lamps that resembled props from a sci-fi film, LED GLS and candle lamps have rapidly adopted an identical appearance to the original incandescent version. Quality of light was the next target. High CRI spotlights and 'dim-to-warm' are recent initiatives that have propelled the LED lighting revolution forward.
