Integrated Nutrient Management in Maize—Bengal Gram Cropping System in Vertisols

A field experiment was conducted during 2007-08 and 2009-10 in cotton sequence of study the effect of organic manures in combination with inorganic fertilizers on the productivity and economic feasibility in maize-Bengal gram cropping system. It revealed that, in cotton sequence organic levels, application of FYM at 3.33 t/ha+ Vermicompost at 0.83 t/ha + crop residues at 1.67 t/ha recorded significantly higher maize yield (58.23 q/ha), Bengal gram yield (2.39 q/ha) and maize equivalent yield (63.47 q/ha) was at par with application of FYM at 5 t/ha + Vermicompost at 1.25 t/ha and application of FYM at 3.33t/ha + Vermicompost at 0.83 t/ha over the other treatment levels. Among inorganic levels, application of 100% RDF recorded significant higher maize yield (69.39 q/ ha), Bengal gram yield (2.71 q/ha) and maize equivalent yield (75.02 q/ha) compared other fertilizer levels, and this is due to nutrient exhaustive nature of maize crop. This is same trend followed in economic feasibility. The interaction effect between organic and inorganic levels were non significant.
