The administration of US President Donald Trump has new tools to conduct energy diplomacy. Following a congressional overhaul of development financing and the reauthorization of the government bank aimed at supporting US exports, administration officials have been touting their ability to fund energy projects from Eastern Europe to the Mideast and South Asia. But while past administrations have been focused on energy security and independence issues, the Trump administration is also looking for opportunities to both build out markets for US oil and gas and support fossil fuel developments overseas.
