摘要

In southern California, coastal sage scrub restoration is usually undertaken through direct assembly using commercially provided container plants or a mixture of container plants within a supplemental seeded matrix. The use of transplants from natural stands (Bowler et al. 1994) is also an effective means for establishing a scrub community and has the advantage of using plants with existing mycorrhizae. Two plant species frequently used in sage scrub restoration include the evergreen shrub Eriogonum fasciculatum (California buckwheat) and Artemisia californica (California coastal sagebrush), a keystone taxon for the community (Prigge and Gibson 2007). This study compares the success of commercially available, containerized A. californica and E. fasciculatums shrubs in plastic gallon pots against that of young, similar-sized A. californica and E. fasciculatum shrubs from a wild, naturally reproducing stand that was established through direct transplantation in 1991 (Bowler et al.1994).
