摘要

In early 1990s, Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) introduced patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) technique into China. Today PCA has become the most common analgesic treatment for postoperative patients in the majority of Chinese hospitals. The development of Acute Pain Service (APS) as described by Ready et al. [1] is an attempt to address the problem of unrelieved postoperative pain by introducing a multidisciplinary team to improve the management of acute pain throughout the hospital. Since APS initiated recently in China, this article shares our APS experience in 1050 patients from April 2004 to April 2005 in the PUMCH. Relevant clinical data were retrospectively analyzed.
