For the smallest country in mainland Africa, the Gambia has recently had the largest rolling news coverage from that continent following reports that the incumbent President, Yaha Jammeh-who seized power in a coup in 1994-refused to step down after his defeat in the country's December elections. Following the intercession of the Economic Community of West African States, and the deployment of armed forces from neighbouring countries, Jammeh left the country in self-imposed exile and Adama Barrow became the President of this country of almost 2 million people.
