Instruments to measure outcomes in paediatric palliative care : a systematic review Palliative care provision for children aims to facilitate a high quality of life through an active and holistic approach to care delivery, with the engagement of the child and their family. Measuring the impact of palliative care for the child and their family and the subsequent outcomes can serve to facilitate the development of a quality service and also ensure that the funding of services is highlighted and prioritised. However, it is acknowledged that there is currently a limited evidence base to support the effectiveness of palliative care for children; a contributing factor to this is the challenge of how outcomes can and should be measured, with the issue of how the voice of the child is captured in measuring their quality of life and the direct impact of palliative care provision on this. Further there is significant breadth to the complex and varying diseases that can affect children, alongside the significant age range and changes that take place within these years.
