摘要

Surveying instrumentation has suffered a major transformation in recent years. The development of laser scanning for three-dimensional (3D) data acquisition guided to developments of highly automated all-digital processing chains up to the final products. In contrast to the "classical" manual data acquisition methods, like topographical surveying and analytical photogrammetry for surface or objects determination, this automatic recording method allow a very dense sampling of the object (area of interest) resulting in a huge amount of unstructured data within a short time. Subsequently, the extraction of relevant features for certain applications (e.g., the terrain surface or building models) based on this data is necessary.
