There is a tendency for the automotive journalist fraternity to point its quills in a rather Anglocentric direction. IMI Magazine sets out to redress the balance with a portrait of the motor industry in Wales by Robin Roberts - a journalist who has always put Wales first. Every UK motorist and motor-oriented business has a connection to Wales through the Swansea-based DVLA or Companies House in Cardiff. New car sales may have tailed-off because Wales has no major fleet-buyers, but it is home to the biggest petrol engine plant for Ford in Europe and Toyota Deeside supplies assembly plants in the UK and abroad with petrol and diesel power units. In addition, Wales is home to 150 major component suppliers who provide circa 18,000 jobs.
