Practically, it has been found that COC (popper-oxy-chloride) acts as the fungicide. The COC consists of cupric chloride and cupric hydroxide mixture i.e.But only CuCI2 shows the fungicide effect because CuCb is soluble in aqueous solution to form Cu++ (cupric ion), cupric hydroxide is insoluble in water and it does not form Cu*+ in aqueous solution and that is why COC will not be for 100% fungicide. Cu++of COC is only responsible for the fungicide property. According to the fungicide property of copper, only the Cu++ (Cupric ion) is responsible for the fungicide. So any copper compound which cannot produce Cu++ ions in aqueous solution cannot show thefungicide property. In case of COC (copper-oxy-chloride), the CuCh.is soluble in water and can produce Cu++ ion in aqueous solution. So CuCI; will show only the fungicide property. But the another constituent of COC is cupric hydroxide [Cu(OH)2] which isinsoluble in aqueous cannot form Cu++ ion. So, the another constituent of COC i,e. Cupric hydroxide cannot show the fungicide effect. From the physical and chemical properties of the constituents of COC (copper-oxy-chloride),it is very much clear that the COG does not show the 100% fungicide property.
