Recent Approach for Classifying and Analysing Casting Defects in Aluminium Alloys

摘要

Among casting defects, porosity plays a large contribution towards failure of Al-alloy components. However, it is largely minimised by the pressure die-casting. Other defects, eg entrainment of bi-films (double oxide layer), shrinkage defects and formation of undesired phases are also contributing towards the poor mechanical properties of the casting components. Therefore, this paper critically discusses a new approach towards the classification of defects and imperfections that arise due to mould design, poor melt quality or during casting. In addition to study of casting defects, quality control tools known as 7QCs are also discussed.
