摘要

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) production is subject to influence of several yield limiting abiotic and biotic factors. Besides, intensification of agriculture has resulted in distinct changes in the rice insect pest complex in Asia and many species that wereconsidered as minor pests earlier, have now become major like rice planthoppers. These cause damage both through direct feeding and as vectors of plant viral diseases (Rubia-Sanchez et al., 2003). Brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens (Stal.) is the most important pest of rice causing an annual yield loss worth $1.06 billion in Southeast Asia (Herdt, 1987). Wide spread outbreaks of the BPH occurred in Northern states of India in 2008, 2013 and 2016 (unpublished data) that resulted in substantialyield losses (Chander and Palta, 2008).
