Awareness Programmme on White Stem Borer Control Measures in Coffee Plantations of Odisha

Odisha is primarily an agrarianeconomy having nearly 30% contribution to the Net State Domestic product (NSDP) with 73 percent of the work force engaged in this sector. Rice, pulses, oil seeds, jute, roselle, sugarcane, coconut and turmeric are major crops grown in Odisha. The state contributes one- tenth of the rice production in India.Crops like tea, coffee, cotton and rubber are also grown on small scale. Coffee is concentrated in forest lands of Eastern ghats, spread over in Koraput, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Rayagada, G. Udayagiriand Balliguda areas of Kandhamal district. Cultivation of coffee is encouraged in southern part of Odisha as climatic conditions, edaphic factors and rainfall pattern are found suitable.
