US railroads say new operating model a success

The four US railroads that have implemented the precision scheduled railroading operating model say they have been able to improve efficiency and save money despite lower revenue associated with the Covid-10 pandemic. The operating model calls for trains to arrive and depart at a fixed time, even if they are not full. The model cuts costs because keeping to a schedule means fewer crews and locomotives are needed. CSX, Norfolk Southern (NS), Union Pacific (UP) and Kansas City Southern (KCS) have implemented the model.
