Iucked away on the southern plains of Lakeview, Oregon, near the California and Nevada border lies MT Appaloosas and Quarter Horses owned and operated by Marisa Brooke. Marisa, with her mother Teresa Brooke, raises both Appaloosas and Quarter Horses alongside their cattle and sheep operation on both deeded and leased land.When asked about the philosophy of her breeding program, she responded, "I have had them my entire life, my mom had them since she was a young girl and bred her first one in the 70s. Honestly I, didn't really care for the Appaloosas. My mom kept pushingand finally I decided to show them for a few years and see why she thought they were so great. The rest is history. I can't imagine being without them now, I love them as much as she does. We love the Prince Plaudit lines and try very hard to keep them alive in our breeding program, we do try very hard to keep introducing some of the more modern lines, however, we do not want to completely lose the influence from our Prince Plaudit lines as well, so for us, we like to cross the certain older lines withmore modern lines to create the horses that work well for us. We want a versatile horse because we are on a working cattle ranch and we expect our horses to do whatever job we need to do — roping, sorting, gathering in rough country but then we also like to attend some shows and games too."
