Myocardial Ischemia or Black Hole? Nuclear Cardiology-From Its Foundation to Its Future

When the first-captured image of a black hole revealed this April, we nuclear medicine staff were amazed at its resemblance to the myocardial perfusion images we encountered during quotidian works. The developments of nuclear cardiology could date back to the early 20th century; with the key progress in the 1960s-1970s in addition to the following four decades of improvements, nuclear cardiology already plays a significant role in clinical decision-making, evaluation of disease extent and prognosis prediction. This brief communication summarized the history of nuclear cardiology and the nuclear cardiology examinations commonly used in Taiwan.
