Bone Scan Visualization of Ectopic Urine Retention in an Incidental Case of Renal Dysplasia

A 67-year-old woman visited our department under the suspicion of bone metastasis. Anterior, posterior, and bilateral bone scans revealed strong radioactivity just above the bladder at the middle portion of the pelvic cavity. The findings of computed tomography conducted in 2004 indicated that this patient had an apparently unaffected right kidney; a well-defined soft tissue nodule measuring approximately 7 cm with clear enhancement and small cysts in the left pelvic region; and nonvisualization of the left kidney in the left renal fossa. Retrograde pyelography conducted in 2004 showed rotation with deformity of the left kidney and congenital dysplasia of the left pelvic kidney. The flow of contrast from the left ureter to the bladder was observed. In the results of diethylene triamine penta-acetic acid (DTPA) scintigraphy, her glomerular filtration rate (GFR) was 61.8 ml/min on the right side, and no function was observed on the left side.
