The Kyoto Protocol: Beyond the limit of histochemistry

It was indeed fitting that the 14th International Congress of His-tochemistry and Cytochemistry was held in the Kyoto International Conference Center, Kyoto, Japan (August 26-29, 2012), which was the birthplace of the Kyoto Protocol, the world efforts to solve global environmental issues that was subsequently adopted by the UN on February 16,2005. If you are going to organize a major international congress, then Kyoto must be a prime site owing to its 1200 year history with its remarkably well preserved temples, shrines and other historical structures including 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites located in the city. It is no wonder that Kyoto attracts over 45 million visitors and sightseers each year. The many attractions of Kyoto added to the enjoyment of a most remarkable congress, which was a celebration of the current achievements of histochemistry. As could be expected, the proceedings worked like clockwork and our Japanese hosts put on a great show for the many visitors to the congress.
