FIRE DOOR CERTIFICATION: SAFEGUARDING THE LIVES OF BUILDING OCCUPANTS

The vital protective role of fire doorsets was thrown into sharp focus following the Grenfell Tower disaster, when a composite doorset taken from the building that was supposed to resist fire for 30 minutes was in fact only able to do so for just 15 minutes. This discovery, alongside other issues, initiated a major investigation led by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) into the effectiveness of all types of fire doors. Results of that full investigation are expected later this year, but early indications from members ofthe BWF Fire Door Alliance, whose products have undergone testing, show that certificated timber doors are delivering on their performance promises.
