Gastrointestinal video endoscopy imaging in 2013: the reality, the issues and the way ahead

To date the recording, the annotation, the storage and then finally the uploading of video tapes or images still remains a personal challenge for gastroenterologists wanting to invest in a simple and easily accessible video-IT system. After reviewing numerous pieces of equipment and software on the market, enabling an image or a native, unclean video to be exported to other devices such as a simple USB stick or uploaded to the Cloud, the author recalls the increasing importance of endoscopic medical imaging in modern gastroenterology and its future in e-medicine. The current legal questions and doubts regarding electronic consultations are analysed and should not get in the way of technical innovation and the computerisation of non-radiological imaging.
