Brazil caustic soda prices soar on Braskem outage

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Brazil’s caustic soda prices soared this week pushed by an extremely tight supply situation created by Braskem’s facility closure in Maceió, Alagoas State. The facility has a caustic soda capacity of 458,000 dry metric tonnes (dmt)/year. Prior to the outage, domestic caustic soda prices in the country were at $550-770/dmt ex-tank, but they continued to climb up throughout the week at least $200/dmt, with a new price range of $750-1,000/dmt ex-tank on Friday.
