Van's Manufacturing Inc. depends on millions of microscopic vacuum bubbles to clean its parts. Without those bubbles, created by an ultrasonic cleaning system, Van's would have to outsource cleaning for up to 90 percent of its parts, estimated Lou Tignac, president and owner of the Simi Valley, Calif., machine shop. In the past, the shop cleaned many parts using petroleum-based solvents in a solvent tank. However, customers often specified that their parts had to be extra clean, so the parts were sent to plating companies, which have thorough cleaning processes.
