In 1926, manufacturer's representative Paulsen Spence patented a pilot-operated steam regulator valve. His innovative, self-contained device operated without external power and could control a variety of flow-control functions. It changed the way utilities provided steam to their customers. Today, Spence Engineering Co. Inc., Walden, N.Y., is a leading developer and provider of steam specialty, fluid control, HVAC and industrial products.
