摘要

Heat treating is one way to increase the surface hardness of a part. Atomic Penetration of Materials is another. APM technology diffuses the atoms from a metal or metals with superior physical properties and implants them into the interstitial spaces of surface molecules of existing metal parts without changing their physical dimensions. APM begins as an electro-deposition process conducted in molten fluoride salts at temperatures ranging from 500° C to about 1,300° C. A base metal, the substrate, and another metal, the agent, are both submerged in the salt solution. Molecules from the agent metal migrate through the solution and penetrate the substrate's surface, restructuring it chemically and mechanically.
