While you may not be famil-iar with Advanced Carbide Grinding Inc., you may be running cutting tools the Latrobe, Pa.-based company prepped for one of its customers. "One of our major product lines is solid-carbide round tools prior to being fluted," said Ed Beck, one of ACG's four co-owners. ACG grinds the back tapers, steps and "whatever else the blanks might need." Purchasing prepped blanks reduces the time needed to produce finished cutting tools and frees up capacity for other grinding operations for ACG's customers. "With our technologies," Beck said, "we're able to produce parts as cheap if not cheaper than [our customers] could have their own employees produce them."
