Stelco to reduce tariff expenses, increase value-added products share

Canada’s integrated flat steel producer Stelco (formerly U.S. Steel Canada), which strongly improved its on-year financialperformance in Q3 2018, expects further growth of its business, driven by the recent safeguards and strongdomestic demand.During the recent conference call, the company unveiled at least three ways to implement its strategy of margin expansion.Specifically, it mentioned the continuing migration of its product mix from HRC to value-added products aswell as the reduction and eventual elimination of tariff expense by shifting sales to Canada and other non-tariff marketsinstead of the US. Finally, Stelco mentioned the focus reducing its already low cost.
