India’s crude steel production slows down in December

Indian steel mills decided to lower crude steel production in December 2018 due to still insufficient domestic demand.Moreover, tough competition and low prices in the international market kept them from increasing their sales abroad.Total crude steel output came to 8.936 million t last month, 1.4% below the level of December 2017 and 0.3% lowercompared to November, according to local press citing official information from the Joint Plant Committee (JPC). It wasexpected, as even such large producers as Tata Steel were forced to cut production in October-December comparedto the previous quarter due to weak local demand.
