New GE project in China to start production in May

The new graphite electrodes mill will start trial production in May in response togrowing EAF capacities in China.Shanxi Beidu Carbon Material completed the construction of a 30,000 tpy graphiteelectrodes plant in Shanxi province in the central part of China and is going tostart trial production on May 1. The new supplier will sell ultra-high power (UHP)electrodes, used mostly by EAF steel producers. The construction started inJuly 2018 together with many other projects, as demand for graphite electrodeswas expected to go up in the local market with the increasing popularity of EAFsteelmaking, which is more eco-friendly. Investments in the first stage of ShanxiBeidu Carbon Material, which is almost accomplished at the moment, were aboutRMB 150 million ($22 million), while total injections are planned at RMB 300 million.
