Africa's poorly kept science gender gap secrets

Since the declaration in 2015 of the UN International Day of Women and Girls in Science on Feb 11, the issue of the gender gap in science has become more visible. Global attention was also brought to the wide gender gap in science in Africa. Most efforts have been largely geared towards encouraging more girls to study science-related courses. But a cross section of women scientists coming from various countries in Africa told The Lancet that the continent's major science gender problems are left unsolved.
