On October 24, Navajo Transitional Energy Co. (NTEC) finished taking over the coal assets from a failed company, Cloud Peak Energy Inc. Accordingly, NTEC acquired a 100% interest in each of Antelope coal mine and Cordero Rojo coal mine in Wyoming and Spring Creek coal mine in Montana. All of the said 3 coal mines are a large-scale open-cut coal mine in the Powder River Basin (PRB), and the type of coal produced is subbituminous coal. A total of 49.54 million short tons (ST) of coal was produced at 3 coal mines in 2018.
