Peabody Energy, the biggest coal mining company in the U.S. now has been developing the coal business in the U.S. as well as Australia, of which the Company produces mainly thermal coal and bituminous coal meant for domestic consumption in the U.S. as its stronghold, hard coking coal in the State of QLD of Australia and thermal coal and semisoft coking coal in the State of NSW of the same. The coal business in the U.S. divides into Powder River Basin (PRB), Midwestern Part (Indiana and Illinois) and Western Part (Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico). Peabody Energy’s coal business in the U.S. has been focused on thermal coal business and subbituminous coal meant for domestic consumption up until now, but the Company plans to expand the export business for metallurgical coal from now onward.
