India to seek more spot copper following Tuticorin ruling: sources

The Indian supreme court’s decision on Monday to hold off the restart of Vedanta’s 400,000 mt/year Tuticorin copper smelter, the second largest producer in the country, will continue to generate constant spot inquiries from India, market sources said Tuesday. The Supreme Court of India overturned the country’s National Green Tribunal’s order to allow the restart of the 400,000 mt/year smelter at Thoothukudi City. The smelter had suspended operations in April last year amid protests on environmental issues.
