A typical chronic form of Aeromonas hydrophila infection in Indian major carp, Catla catla, from Andaman.

Biochemical and genetic characterization of a species-specific strain of A. hydrophila causing an atypical form of chronic dropsy in mature C. catla in India is described. Affected fish were anorexic, lethargic and showed characteristic scale erosions without ulceration before death. The disease affected only catla carp in ponds containing 2 other carp species.
