摘要

The focus of this project was to develop a new form of non-electronic rain gaugethat provided more information than a standard rain gauge, without a drasticincrease in cost. The rain gauge design was required to record individual rainfallevents to provide a rainfall stratigraphy, which in turn provides information aboutthe relative size, shape and spatial variation of each rainfall event recorded. To datethe study of individual rainfall events has been limited, due to the high cost ofelectronic recording rain gauges and the need to use an array of the recording unitsto provide this information. To date there has been only one known study in thisarea, reported in a paper by E.J. Brown and W.E. Bardsley in the 1999 Journal ofHydrology, entitled 'Recording rainfall stratigraphy: a modified storage gauge formeasuring rainfall events'.
